"Hilling Genealogy" compiled by Esther Littleford Woodworth-Barnes and edited by Jane Fletcher Fiske, refers to the book "History of Quidnesset" -- on page 20, John Allen was made Major General of a regiment in North Kingstown in May 1771.

So there's a possibility he might have fought in the Revolution.
