Born: 1830, New York 4
Born: 1823, Cazenovia, Madison, NY 5
Born: 1826, New York 6
Died: 19 APR 1900, Eaton, Madison, NY 7

Notes:
Hiram owned lot 26 -- next to lot 27 owned by Christopher Spencer. I'm not certain if Hiram was married to Savilla Spencer (who owned lot 27) but it seems like there might be a connection.

Violet E Kettelle Collection, 'Rathbun, Also Gay, Mawney', Box 4, Folder 27. Rhode Island Historical Society Collections. (notebook)
- Rathbuns of Block Island were among the Rathbun family in New York. Because the family of Christopher Spencer descended from John->William->Henry->William of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, I'm guessing the Rathbun family came over at about the same time, finally marrying into the Spencer Family with the marriage of Catherine Savilla Spencer and Clark Rathbun of Madison County, NY.

Book: In the Shadow of the Trees, by Mathias P. Harpin and Waite Albro, 2003 Pawtuxet Valley Preservation and Historical Society, West Warwick, RI. Copy at East Greenwich Free Library RI-974.548.HAR.
- The author talks about the Rathbun family of West Greenwich. The initial Rathbun was John who arrived in Massachusetts in 1664. He later moved to Block Island where the Rathbun family once owned a sixteenth of the island. A descendent, James married Melissa Capwell and moved to W. Greenwich into the old Quire Oliver Matteson house on Weaver Hill Road. His youngest son Elmer J. Rathbun was chief justice of the Rhode Island Supreme court.

Born: 1842, New York 22

Notes:
There is a Savilla Rathbun listed at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyccazen/Directories/1868-69CazIndividual.html . On that page,
Savilla Rathbun is listed as the owner of lot 27 -- the 53 acres owned by Christopher Spencer.
I believe this is Savilla Spencer, then, who married into the Rathbun family.

Notes from "Violet E Kettelle Collection, ‘William(2) Spencer (John(1))’, Box 5, Folder 16. Rhode Island Historical Society Collections. (notebook)":
- Violet Kettelle describes the children of Abigail Harrington and Gideon Rathbun (ref. Rathbun Genealogy).
- This corroberates my assumption that the Rathbuns of Madison County NY are descended from the Rathbuns of Rhode Island, and perhaps moved to Madison county alongside (or preceding) the Spencers

(02) Flora G. RATHBUN:
Name: F G RATHBUN 23
Born: 1866, New York 24
