Notes:
From my Great Uncle Allen's obituary -- posted in the Casper Star Tribune:

"CASPER -- A celebration of life for Allen Lewis Spencer, 83 will be held Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at 3 p.m. at his church, Word Christian Fellowship. Pastor Dan Carlin is officiating and graveside services will immediately follow at Highland Cemetery.

He died at Wyoming Medical Center, surrounded by his family, Dec. 12, 2007.

He was born April 27, 1924 to Allen Luther and Anna Louise (Schumacher) Spencer in Holyoke, Minn. At age 17, he joined the United States Army Air Force and fought in WWII in the European Theatre. He served as the flight engineer and the top turret gunner on a B-17G Bomber. He participated in 35 bombing missions, was credited with shooting down four German planes and he provided air cover over the beaches of Normandy on D-Day.

When the war was over, he was honorably discharged and returned home with the Distinguished Flying Cross, and an Air Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters and 2 gold stars signifying that he had taken part in two major aerial engagements.

He worked in many places across the country before coming to Casper, where he met Collene Byer and fell in love. They were married on July 18, 1953, and moved to Superior, Wis., where they lived for five years. They returned to Casper in 1959 where they settled and raised their five daughters.

He loved to camp and travel. He and his wife enjoyed taking their children and grandchildren all over the United States, Canada and Mexico. He was an avid bowler and collected many awards and trophies over the years. He was a huge fan of the New York Yankees and the Denver Broncos, and proudly cheered on the Wyoming Cowboys.

He is survived by his wife, his daughters, Cheryl Masterson, Caryn Schulenberg and her husband, Alena Stevens and her husband, Allyn Hadlock and her husband, all of Casper and Caryl Reed and her husband of Rawlins, 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, his brother, William M. Spencer of Superior, Wis., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Laura and Ruth, a half-brother, Norman, and one great-grandchild.

Bustards Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements."
