Additional Information

(04) Christian SCHUMACHER:

Notes:
Notes from my Great Uncle: "Christian Schumacher, my great Uncle Christian, served in the first world war when they called up older men. He was then taken prisoner by the Russians and was never heard from again."

"Christian Schumacher, my Great Uncle, joined the German Army when he was quite young. I have a picture of him, in his uniform standing by a table, covered by a very ornate table cloth and holding his sword, point resting on the floor. He looks very young, not over 20. On the back it says 'Dad's Brother, Uncle Christian, in German Army about 1870'. I question the accuracy of this statement. If he had been 20 in 1870, he would have been 68 when Germany called up its older men in 1918. Would they really put men in the army who were close to 70 years old? Possible, I suppose, but it sounds unlikely. This is all of the ifnromation that I have on my Grandfather Schumacher's family."

From Bertha Schumacher-Hallgren: "Father's brother who always wrote to us, disappeared in World War 1 and was never heard from again by his family. Toward the last they called middle aged men as he was because he had once been an officer in the army."
