Carl Lewis Theodore SCHUMACHERUpdated: 4-August-2005 Carl SCHUMACHER was my great-great-grandfather, who immigrated to the US in 1884 according to the 1930 Federal Census for Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota It is possible that he and Albertina (or Albertine, or Henriette/Henrietta Albertine/Albertina) met each other on the voyage over, according my Great Uncle William Malrose SPENCER. They were then married in the US in 1887 (according to the 1930 Census). Before moving to North Dakota, the Schumacher family lived in Wabasha County, Minnesota. Carl had leased a farm near Chester, MN. His son, Albert was born in Mazeppa according to Albert's draft registration card. His daughter, Anne may have been born in Chester or Lake City, MN. After moving from Minnesota, they lived on their farm between Lisbon and Fargo, ND in Ransom County, and then later in the town of Fargo, ND in Cass County. My Great Uncle William Malrose SPENCER knew Carl and Albertine as a child -- their family visited them in Fargo on a few occasions. My grandmother, Laura Marie SPENCER-FREDRICK, being quite a bit older, had clearer memories; describing them as warm people who spoke English well but with thick German accents. She said that Carl and Albertine spoke in German with each other. Carl was from Pomerania (Pommern), Germany but I don't know yet which city. I think he might have been naturalized the same year he immigrated -- 1884. He lived in Wabasha County -- Lake City and/or Chester, and then later moved with his family to a farm between Lisbon and Fargo, North Dakota (Ransom and Cass counties respectively). One of Carl's daughters was Anna Louise SCHUMACHER-SPENCER, my Great Grandmother, and mother of Laura Marie SPENCER-FREDRICK, my Grandmother. Laura had two sons, Dennis FREDRICK my Uncle, and Eugene Herman FREDRICK, my father. Anna married Allen Luther Spencer -- she was living in Lisbon and he was living in International Falls at the time. It was Allen's second marriage. There is a wedding announcement for Allen and Anna in the Bismark Daily Tribune, January 1912. The name "Carl Lewis Theodore SCHUMACHER" is from the death certificate according to my brother, Shawn.
