Wilhelmina Adelina FREDRICK (FREDRICH)

Wilhelmina DIETRICH-FREDRICK was my great-grandmother, wife of
Herman August FREDRICK. According
to my Grandmother, Laura Marie SPENCER-FREDRICK, she was the only one
of her (DIETRICH) family who emmigrated to America from the town of Debenke
in the Kreis Wirsitz County of the Posen Province of what was
then Prussia (Germany). The town today in Poland is called
Debionek. Her father was Herman Dietrich according to
the the
ships manifest from a 1911 trip on the Grossen Kurfurst
The spelling of the name can be quite varied. She went by "Minna" in Holyoke and on the censuses. The name for other women with the same name in Debenke is spelled "Wilhelmina". I have also seen the name spelled:
- Wilhilma (as it appears on her death certificate)
- Wilhilmina
- Wilhelmine
- Mina
- Minnie (as it appears on Herman Fredrick's declaration of intention for naturalization
Minna married Herman August FREDRICK in 1905, the same year she immigrated. I haven't yet found a record of naturalization. She died June 27, 1941 when she was 59 years old.
Minna tended the farm in Holyoke along with my great grandfather, Herman. My Great Uncle Bill remembers working for her one summer as a kid, doing farm errands.
I don't have much yet on the DIETRICH family -- I didn't find a birth record in the church records for Debenke. But I believe from Herman Fredrick's naturalization papers that she was born in Debenke. I also believe that she and Herman married in Germany before coming over. Their children, however, were born in Holyoke, Carleton County, Minnesota. There is a death record for a DIETRICH in 1882 -- I can't quite make out the first name -- perhaps Carl.
